Choose a model

This page shows you how to choose which AI model writes your rewrites.

Pick a provider

Your provider is the company your key comes from. Set it in Settings, on the Account tab, under Provider:

ProviderNotes
OpenRouter (recommended)Every major model with one key. The only provider the audit and Find sources work with.
AnthropicClaude models, with a key from Anthropic.
OpenAIGPT models, with a key from OpenAI.
Custom (OpenAI-compatible)Any service that works like OpenAI's. Also fill in Base URL with the address your service gives you.

Every provider needs its key in API key.

Choose the model in the recipe

The model lives in the rewrite recipe, not in Settings, so you can change it between versions: draft v1 in one model and rewrite v2 in another. Each version shows the model that wrote it, as via and the model's name.

The model search lists every OpenRouter model, grouped by family, newest first.

  1. Type part of a name, such as qwen or claude.
  2. Use the arrow keys or the mouse to pick a model, then press Enter or select it.

Each row shows the model's context size (how much text it can read at once, such as 200k ctx) and its price per million tokens of input.

Badge or controlWhat it means
openAn open-weight model. Its maker cannot add a hidden watermark to what it writes.
aliasA name that always points at the newest model of a line. A version made with it may not come out the same way later.
Open-weight onlyShows only open-weight models. PlainSpeak remembers your choice.
RefreshFetches the model list again. The list is otherwise kept for 10 minutes.

Keep favourites

  1. In the model search, select the star on a model's row, or press Ctrl+D on the highlighted row.
  2. Your favourites appear in a Favourites group at the top, in the order you starred them. They also stay in their family.

You can keep up to 10 favourites per provider. To add another, unstar one first. A favourite that OpenRouter no longer lists stays in the group, greyed, with Not in the current list, so you can unstar it.

The recipe has a Favourites list next to the model, so you can switch between your favourites without opening the search.
