Use templates for posts
This page shows you how to use, make and manage templates. A template is the shape a Recompose pours your material into: a purpose, an ordered list of sections, and a preset voice, hook and call to action.
The built-in templates
| Template | Good for | Voice | Opens with | Ends with |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Misconception | Clearing up a false belief | Warm | A question | A question |
| Bold Claim plus Story | A contrarian claim earned with experience | Direct | A bold claim | No call to action |
| Before / After / Bridge | A change, and how to make it | Practitioner | A story | No call to action |
| Listicle | A short numbered set of ideas | Mass audience | A question | A question |
| Numbers / Teardown | Taking a real number apart | Practitioner | A stat | A question |
Use a template
- Open the rewrite recipe and choose Recompose as the Mode.
- In Recompose details, choose a Template.
- Fill in the Topic if the template asks for one.
- Change the Sections, Hook or Call to action for this post if you like. These changes apply to this rewrite only.
- Select Done, then Rewrite.
If the template reads best in another voice, the recipe says so.
Make your own template
- Set up a Recompose in the recipe the way you want it: sections, hook, call to action.
- Select Save current as template and give it a name.
Your template appears in the Template list as one of yours.
Manage templates in Settings
Open Settings, then the Templates tab. For each template you can change its title, Purpose and Topic prompt. To change its sections, hook or call to action, use the recipe and Save current as template.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Duplicate | Copies the template under a new name. |
| Reset | Takes an edited built-in back to the original. |
| Delete | Removes one of your own templates. |
| Export | Saves one template, or with the button at the bottom, your whole library, to a file. |
| Import | Loads templates from a file. A name already in use gets a number added. |
Limits
- One to ten sections per template.
